With less than 24 hours to go for the blockbuster World Cup semi-final match, the host city, Mohali, has been hit by rains, according to TV reports. The Meteorological Department has forecast thundershowers for Wednesday night. However, they say the weather should clear up by morning.
"It will be comparatively warm tomorrow. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30 to 33 degrees Celsius whereas the minimum temperature will be around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius Wednesday," a Met official has been quoted as saying. Even though the Met department says it is unlikely, if Wednesday's match is rained out, then there is a reserve day - on Thursday when the match can be played.
But, if Thursday is also washed out by rains, then the rule states, "If following a tie, weather conditions prevent the one over eliminator from being completed, or if the match is a no result, then the team that finished in the higher position in the Group stage shall proceed to the final." Then this rule will clearly help Pakistan move into the finals.
