Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sports Minister, Syed Aqil Shah here Sunday welcomed Prime Minister, Syed Yusuaf Raza Gilani's decision to watch Cricket World Cup semi-final in Mohali on March 30 after accepting the invitation of Indian counterpart, Dr Manmohan Singh.
"The presence of PM Gilani at Mohali during Pak-India WC semi-final clash would not only boost the morale of green shirts but will also open up a new era of bringing government and people of both neighbouring countries closer," the minister told APP.
Aqil said Prime Minister deserves full credit and appreciation by accepting the invitation of Indian Prime Minister and expressed hope that it would enable people of Pakistan and India to understand each other. "The visit is a positive step towards friendship and peace in the region" he told APP.
The two democratic elected Prime Ministers would be there to watch the great show that would pave the way for lasting peace in the region. The people of two countries want meaningful dialogue to bring real time peace and sustainable development in the region, he added. He noted that sports have always played a key role in bringing people of Pakistan and India closer. He said terrorism and militancy could be combated by promoting sports.
Prime Minister Gilani's visit to India will go a long way in establishment of an atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence to harness these resources for strengthening the economies of both countries besides uplifting the living standard of people. Peaceful and friendly relations between India and Pakistan are essential to promote bilateral trade and economic relations and to exploit the full potential of each other, he stressed.
