Today the government has completed its third year in office. The performance of the government during the last three years should be measured against the background of challenges that faced the country when we took over. This background would give you an idea of the mammoth tasks that was ahead of us when the nation elected us to serve them.
The security threat, economic crunch, lack of understanding between federating units and relations with outside world were major challenges that needed immediate attention. Through the policy of reconciliation, political ownership was given to war on terror, reforms were introduced to improve the state of economy, constitutional amendments were made to restore the original spirit of the Constitution and strategic relations were built with major international powers.
The efforts to ensure food security, improve energy situation, address the grievances of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan were being made simultaneously in order to minimise the difficulties of the people at large. The devastating floods aggravated the problems but could not shatter our resolve and struggle to confront the challenges.
The first three years were spent on fixing the fundamental issues of policy and we would make sure that the fruits of reforms reach the common man in the ensuing two years. The Government is moving forward with determination to solve the issues directly affecting the common man. In the next two years, the strategies and plan initiated would start bearing fruits. The focus of our attention would be to reduce unemployment, check price hike, improve civic amenities and reduce energy deficiencies.
