One Pakistani paramilitary soldier was killed and three wounded in a clash with Afghan forces in a militant-infested region on the border on Wednesday, Pakistani officials said. The clash occurred in the Ghulam Khan area in Pakistan's North Waziristan region, a major sanctuary for al Qaeda and Taliban militants.
"They fired mortars which hit our border post. One of our soldiers was killed and three wounded," an intelligence official in North Waziristan told Reuters on condition of anonymity. A Pakistan military spokesman was not immediately available for comment. Afsardost, police chief of the Gorboz district of Afghanistan's Khost province bordering North Waziristan, accused Pakistani forces of starting the clash, and said Afghan forces returned fire.
