DSP among five killed in Peshawar blasts

Synchronised bomb blasts on Monday killed five people including a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and three police constables besides leaving several injured in various parts of Peshawar. In first blast, a suicide bomber struck a police van at Kohat Road around 9am, killing DSP Rasheed Khan, his driver Ameen Shah, constable Sher Rehman and a passer-by Khan Mohammad.
Those injured have been identified as Mohammad Raheel (31) of Bazar Kalan, Furqal (college student), Khan Gul (25) of Darmangri of Darmani, Furqan (26), Jan Agha (30) of Shah Kas Jamrud, Karim Khan (19), Mohammad Islam of Darra Adam Khel and Noor Ali of Garhi Qamar Din. The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital, where condition of the two injured is stated to be critical.
The second blast took place at Taajabad in the limits of Peshtakhara police station where policeman Nasir Khan was killed and three others Aadil Khan (30), Moheed (47) and Ghani Rehman (25) were wounded. All of them were rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex.
A police official said the DSP, on routine patrolling was heading towards Badbher area when the bomber struck the van. Several other vehicles also came under attack. An eyewitness told reporters he heard a huge blast and saw people running towards different directions.
An official of the Bomb Disposal Unit told media that one leg of the apparent suicide bomber was found near the blast site. About 7kgs explosives had been used by the bomber, he added. He said ball bearings and different pieces of the suicide vest had also been found from the scene. About the blast at Taajabad Achini, he said that one kilogramme explosive packed in a plastic container was planted along roadside and was detonated through a remote-controlled device. Police have registered cases against unidentified terrorists but so far no arrest could be made.
