Cricket Canada, the governing body of the sport, has urged the International Cricket Council to help its three Pakistan-born players obtain Indian visas for next month's World Cup, according to a Canadian newspaper.
Vice-captain Rizwan Cheema, Khurram Chohan and Hamza Tariq are still awaiting visas ahead of the tournament, which gets underway in the sub-continent on February 19, The Globe and Mail reported Sunday. Cricket Canada is hoping the ICC would alter the tournament schedule, which sees Canada playing four of their six group games in India, the newspaper said.
The Canadian team wants to get the games to move to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka if visa woes continue for their players, the report said. Cricket Canada president Ranjit Saini said all efforts should be made to solve the problem immediately. In the World Cup, Canada are in Group A, which also includes title holder Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Kenya and New Zealand.
