Anti-dumping duty: I will raise this issue with Turkish Prime Minister, says Gilani

Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Federal Advisor on Textiles in his letter requested Prime Minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani to urgently intervene and speak to Turkish Prime Minster to exclude Pakistan from imposition of anti-dumping duty on import of fabric and garments. The PM assured to take up this matter with Turkish PM.
Dr Baig also spoke to Secretary Commerce, Zafar Mehmood and requested him to urgently send a delegation to Turkey including CEO TDAP, Tariq Iqbal Puri to take up this issue with Turkish authorities before their Council of Ministers meeting due on 28th January 2011. Also, Hassan Eken, President Turkey-Pak Business Council has written a letter to Turkish Prime Minister supporting Pakistan on the issue.
The federal advisor also took up this matter with Turkish Minister for Trade, Zafer Caglayan, saying that imposition of anti-dumping duty will seriously affect efforts to increase bilateral trade to US dollars two billion per annum, a target set by Turkish Prime Minister and President with Pakistan Prime Minister during Pakistan-Turkey CEO Forum meetings in Islamabad.
He said that European Union has already allowed Pakistan trade concession for duty free exports of textiles and Turkey, being one of the members of EU Customs Union and a close Muslim brotherly country should avoid any such measures as our economy is already under pressure because of devastating floods. Dr Baig advised exporters of fabrics and garments of the country that these measures are not yet enforced and transition period of about four months is being envisaged.
