Sugar cane growers call off strike after Rs182 price-fixing in Sindh

KARACHI: Sindh's sugar cane representative bodies, Sindh Abadgar Board and Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Wednesday called off their strike scheduled for December 04 after the announcement of price-fixing of Rs182 of sugar cane by the Sindh government.

Addressing a press briefing after a meeting with the Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal they said that they are happy with the price and calling off the strike after acceptance of their demand.

President, Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, Kabool Mohammed Khatian said that they are thankful to the government for accepting the price which they had demanded.

Replying to a question regarding the loss to them due to the issue of two-month gap of price fixing, he said that they should not have to suffer from the loss situation but if their demand is not met and further delayed then they would have to bear it as there is not enough water in Kotri or Sukkur barrage to provide to the sugar cane.

Adding that they have accepted the decision, after a gap of two-month, only in the broader interest of the province.
