Namaz-e-Janaza of three policemen who laid down their lives in the suicide attack at the Urdu Bazaar was offered here at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh on Wednesday. The Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, IGP Punjab Javed Iqbal, senior officials and a large number of policemen attended the funeral prayers.
It may be noted that three policemen Haji Nazir, Shahbaz and Allah Ditta of Mujahid squad embraced martyrdom in the line of duty during Tuesday's suicide attack that also claimed lives of one other innocent people besides wounding more than 70, including women and children.
Talking to reporters after the funeral prayers, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif announced Rs 3 million each for the families of the three martyred policemen who lost their lives in the suicide attack. He said all educational expenses of the children of the martyred policemen would also be borne by the Punjab government.
Answering a question, the chief minister said stringent security measures were adopted by the law enforcement agencies, which is evident from the fact that the routine activities continued at the shrine of Hazrat Data Gunj Buksh till 01 am Shahbaz lauded the bravery of policemen and Mujahid Force who intercepted the terrorists at the first police check-point set up to ensure security of the devotees of Data Gunj Bakhsh and the participants of the Chehlum procession.
Moreover, in the wake of suicide blasts in Lahore and Karachi on Tuesday, security measures have been beefed up across the province. Pursuant to directions of Punjab government, police authorities have been asked to remain alert and ensure foolproof security, maintain law and order in their respective areas. Police officials have been asked to intensify patrolling at important and crowded places of big cities to maintain vigil against suspects and dubious elements.
