Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday submitted two adjournment motions to National Assembly Secretariat, seeking debate of the House on deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab and lawlessness in Karachi, Sindh.
The two separate motions submitted to the House under rule 110 of the rules of procedure and conduct of business in the National Assembly spoke about the worsen law and order situation in Punjab and the killing of elected representatives, office-bearers, workers and sympathisers belonging to MQM apart from killing innocent people including children in various parts of Sindh.
The first adjournment motion, signed by five MQM members including Dr Farooq Sattar, Dr Abdul Kadir Khanzada, Asif Hasnain, Imrana Saeed and Dr Ayub Sheikh urged the Speaker to allow discussion in the House on the overall lawlessness in Punjab.
The adjournment motion says, "We rise to move motion to adjourn the business of the house to discuss the matter, of public interest of deteriorating law and order situation across the Punjab province where incidents of murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping of children for rape and abduction for ransom, abduction of women and incidents of gang-rape, incidents of burning women and children, dacoities on highways in broad day light, robberies, theft, vehicle snatching are increasing with each passing day."
Later talking to media outside Parliament House, the MQM members including Asif Hasnain, Abdul Kadir Khanzada, Imrana Saeed and Sajid Ahmed said that according to media reports Punjab witnessed drastic rise in heinous crimes by 109 percent due to which the province virtually became a 'police state'.
They said the increase in crimes in Punjab was an eye-opener for those hoodwinking the masses by the slogan of good governance. They were of the view that Punjab has 62 percent of the country's population and the rising trend of crime in the province altogether had laid bad impact over the country economy. The MQM members also called upon the government and other political forces to play their due role in bringing normalcy in Punjab.
Abdul Kadir Khanzada suggested that stern actions should be taken against the land and drug mafias to ensure law and order situation in Karachi. Khanzada, without naming anyone, said a 'highest authority' of Punjab was visiting Sindh and creating hatred among the people. "We strongly condemn the 'highest authority' of Punjab for creating hatred in Sindh during his speeches," he maintained, adding that everyone in the country knows him. He also urged the government to take action against those creating hatred among the masses.
Sajid Ahmed said the MQM has forwarded to the government a list of 150 'wanted' who were responsible for bad law and order situation in Karachi and hoped their detention would bring normalcy in the metropolis.
