Punjab Governor Lateef Khosa visited the headquarters of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) at Azizabad here on Sunday. On arrival, he was accorded a very warm welcome by MQM-associated senators, members of the National and Sindh assemblies, Sindh ministers, advisors and members of different wings of the MQM, a statement issued here said.
Khosa also met with the Deputy Convenor of MQM Rabita Committee Dr Farooq Sattar and others. The Punjab Governor held more than an hour-long meeting with the members of MQM Rabita Committee, where they discussed matters of mutual interest and other important issues.
After the meeting in his conversation with the media, the Governor said that he would play his role for elimination of crimes in Punjab. He said that he had brought a message of love and peace to Karachi. He said that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto had brought the politics from the drawing room to the masses.
He said Karachi is the economic hub of the country, "and we have to pursue the policy of conciliation to maintain peace in the city". Lateef Khosa said he had also conveyed the message of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to MQM chief, Altaf Hussain.
Farooq Sattar said that the Punjab Governor "has appreciated the increasing popularity of MQM in Punjab". He said: "We have agreed to work jointly to bring political stability in the country, promotion of democratic values, resolution of problems of the people, poverty alleviation and elimination of terrorism and extremism".
He said: "We will play the role to develop harmony among the provinces and development of the country". He said that Altaf Hussain had greeted Lateef Khosa on his appointment as Governor of Punjab, "and all of us greet him, too, for the same".
Members of MQM Rabita Committee Shoaib Bukhari, Ashfaq Mangi, Mrs Nasreen Jaleel, Gulfaraz Khan Khatak, Yousuf Shahwani, Babar Khan Gharui, PPP leaders Mazhar-ul-Haq and Ayaz Soomro and others were also present.
