Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting to review the pace of work on Aashiana Housing Project, here on Saturday. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that Aashiana Housing Project is a revolutionary project of Punjab government, which will materialise dream of low-income people of having their own house.
He said that the government is fully aware of the problems of homeless people and this welfare project was started for providing shelter to the low-income people. He further said that low-cost housing scheme has been started from Lahore and its scope will be extended to all cities of the province. Shahbaz said that the process of identifying land for the schemes is going on throughout the province.
He added that allotment of houses under the project will be made through balloting in a very transparent manner and a quota has also been reserved for widows, orphans and martyrs in this regard. He added that provision of all basic amenities would be ensured in low-cost housing schemes.
He also said that cottage industry will also be promoted in these schemes so that people could get jobs near their houses. He said that the housing schemes would be completed in a very transparent manner and quality in construction of the houses would be ensured. The chief minister directed to accelerate pace of work on Aashiana Housing Project so that houses could be made available to the low-income people at the earliest. Earlier, Chairman Land Development Company, Sh. Allauddin gave a detailed briefing with regard to progress of Aashiana Housing Project. Participants of the meeting also put forth their suggestions for the welfare project.
