KESC says miscreants disrupt its services

Karachi Electricity Supply Company (KESC), the privately-owned power utility of the city, in a press release here on Saturday said its functional operations in the city are being severely affected as a result of disruptions caused by ''certain destructive elements that are obstructing the smooth functioning of the power utility and preventing KESC personnel from performing their duties.''
It claimed KESC employees attending electricity faults in the city are being badly beaten by these miscreants and are being stopped from performing their responsibilities in an unobstructed manner. ''As a result, many areas in the city are facing prolonged power outages since relevant KESC staff is not able to attend to the faults.''
The KESC''s Medical Centre located on Eleander Road, which provides health related services to the KESC employees, was also forced into shutting down under threats from miscreants representing the KESC workers union, the release says, adding "on Thursday last hundreds of miscreants had entered the KESC House in Karachi and attacked personnel on duty, besides causing huge losses to the building and damaging some 150 employees'' cars in the parking area." The glass front of the building was wantonly damaged and staff members were subjected to brutal physical assault by the miscreants, concludes the release.
