Minister for State, Port and Shipping Ministry Nabeel Gabol has resigned in protest against the on-going crackdown by law enforcement agencies in Lyari, Karachi. The Prime Minister's Secretariat confirmed the receipt of his resignation on Wednesday. The resignation stated that he had relinquished his charge on personal reasons. However, no decision on his resignation has been taken so far, sources disclosed.
Sources in Ministry of Port and Shipping revealed that Gabol decided to resign following his meeting with Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza. It has been further learnt that the operation has started in some parts of Karachi, including Lyari, where more than a dozen people, most of them PPP workers were arrested. Lyari is considered a strong base of PPP. Gabol, who was elected from Lyari, reacted to the action by his own government, accusing Rehman Malik of targeting his own party workers. Gabol had demanded operation in MQM strongholds of Usmanabad, Azizabad, Landhi and Korangi.
MONITORING DESK adds: Police on Wednesday night withdrew security at the residence of MNA Nabeel Gabol after his resignation from the ministry of shipping and ports, a private TV channel reported. Gabol alleged the Sindh police for raiding on his bungalow located in the limits of Darakshan Police Station and detained his security guards. However, the Capital City Police Officer Fayyaz Leghari said that the police had only withdrawn the security from the Gabol's residence over his resignation from the ministry.
