Ongoing violence in Karachi: small-scale businesses decrease by 90 percent

The city's small-scale businesses have declined by 90 percent during the fresh wave of violence, which traders termed an alarming situation. Talking to Business Recorder on Monday, chairman of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad, Muhammad Atiq Mir said during the last one week traders were facing huge losses due to lack of customers owing to violence in the city.
"Business activities have gone down about 90 percent during the fresh waves of violence, which is alarming for traders amid soaring inflation." Expressing fears, he said that peace in the city had almost vanished while the country's economy was breathing its last.
He said city traders were facing at least Rs one billion losses daily, which has triggered mass-scale downsizing at markets, which would resultantly increase unemployment. Atiq Mir said targeted killings in the city should be stopped and the perpetrators should be dealt sternly. He suggested the government either cleanse the city from weapons as in Britain had done or provide each citizen with arms on the pattern of Texas state of the US.
