Police resorted baton charge and tear gas shelling to disperse students of Islamia College University Peshawar (ICU) protesting against the refusal of administration to send their examination forms to Board of Intermediate and Secondary education Peshawar (BISEP).
Hundred of Inter part-I and II students took out a rally over refusal by administration to send their examination forms to Board of Intermediate Secondary Education Peshawar BISEP due to lacking of required attendance in last academic session. According to criteria and rules, 75 percent attendance was mandatory in the whole academic session, but the students did not fulfil the required attendance, said an official source privy to meeting held here Tuesday in ICP premises under its Registrar Dr Saeed Anwar in the chair.
The source said that the administration had imposed high fines, as per subject against students who had failed to attain required attendance last academic session, because of which forms didn't send to BISEP. The meeting has decided to close university for four days till 17 January after prevailing chaos in the university, the sources added. The sources further said that the meeting was attended by Deans, heads of the departments, and senior faculty members of the university.
The campus police used teargas and baton charge in retaliation of pelting stones and bricks by the angry students. In less than half an hour resistance between police and students, in which Sabz Ali a employees Islamia College Peshawar got injured as the Class-III and IV employees also held a protest demonstration in university campus against the abduction of Vice Chancellor, Ajmal Khan.
The class-III and IV employees had announced three days pen down strike and protest drive following the released of fourth video-tape of the abducted vice chancellor, Ajmal Khan by his captors. A large number of employees were gathered outside the Khyber-Union hall at university campus to hold protest demonstration.
