Muttahid Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid Altaf Hussain on Monday demanded of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to immediately overcome gas shortage in Karachi. Reacting to gas suspension and its shortage in Karachi, MQM chief said gas loadshedding has been going on in Karachi like the rest of the country. Sui Southern Gas has also suspended gas supply to KESC, which caused reduction in electricity production.
He said gas loadshedding has again been started for 12 to 16 hours in residential and commercial areas of the metropolitan city, which was not only causing problems for Karachiites but the industries are also being shut down. The MQM chief said Karachi is the backbone of the country's economy and shutting down the industries will cripple the economy.
The federal government should take note of this issue and resolve gas shortage problem. Gas supply to KESC should be restored in order to end the electricity loadshedding, he added. He said the gas crisis has been becoming severe with the passage of time. It is imperative to take effective measures to end crisis.
