'Private courier companies operating without regulations'

It was shocking to know that private courier companies, which transport and deliver important documents of public and even government departments in every nook and corner of the country, are operating without any regularity authority. "Consequently it is also causing a great loss to Pakistan Post," Postal Ministry sources told APP.
Sources said Post Office Department has an exclusive privilege under section 4 of Post Office Act to convey letter mail item. An official of Pakistan Post told APP that the ministry has taken effective measures to compete the courier companies.
He said that to move with the pace of the time, to keep abreast itself with ever changing market and to meet the challenges of escalating customers sophistication, Pakistan Post also introduced a full blend of Express Mail and Financial Services. He said that premier postal services are being offered in tough competition with private sector operations, adding that although the revenue of Express Post Services registered in upward swing of 15 percent during the year 2008-09, 51 percent in traffic and 38 percent in revenue during 2009-10, however, "there is still a great potential in the Express Post Services," he said.
