People travelling between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have complained that transporters on every Friday and Saturday when CNG stations are closed due to gas load management plan drop them half way without plying the prescribed routes.
During a survey carried out by Business Recorder, people from different walks of life said that transporters picked them from their respective stops but did not leave them at the designated prescribed stops. They blamed the authorities for not taking any action against these vans and Suzuki owners that are clearly violating rules.
When contacted, the traffic police officials of Rawalpindi and Islamabad said that they are available for redressal of public grievances if they receive complaints from people on violation of traffic rules. "Without any complaint traffic police cannot take any action against the van owners," said Numan Ahmed, Rawalpindi Traffic Police warden deployed at Faizabad. He said that if any public transporter is plying his vehicle on the roads he is bound to complete his route otherwise in accordance with traffic police law a huge plenty could be imposed against such violators.
However, drivers and conductors argue that in the two gas loadshedding days they try their best to facilitate those travelling between the cities, but are worried that they may run out of fuel. Those relying on transport complained bitterly that despite the fact they are paying full fare to the conductors of the vans/suzukis, yet each Friday and Saturday the public transport owners are dropping them far from their designated stops and on occasion they have to hire a cab or rickshaw to get to their workplace.
