The markets in the city remained closed on Wednesday to express solidarity with Governor Punjab Salman Taseer who was assassinated in a firing incident at Islamabad's Kohsar market on Tuesday.
All leading markets and business centers including; currency market, paper market, Akbari Mandi, Mall Road, Hall Road, Liberty Market, Moon Market, Iqbal Town, Main Market Gulberg, Urdu Bazaar, Icchra Bazaar, Firdous Market, Gulberg, Anarkali, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Model Town Link Road, Circular Roan, Lohari Gate, Mochi Gate, Dehli Gate, Shahalam Market, Rang Mhal, Gwalmandi, Bedon Road, McLeod Road, Niclson Road, Mozang Road, Abid Market, Dhrampura, Shah Alam Market, Orega Center, Hafeez Centre, Moti Bazaar, Azam Cloth Market, and Naqi Market and many others remained completely closed.
Secretary General, All Pakistan Anjuman-Tajiran Abdul Razzaq Babbar said that the traders had observed shutter-down strike to support the decision of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who had announced a public holiday to mourn the death of governor. He said that trader's community strongly condemned the brutal murder of Salman Taseer by a religious fanatic. He said that business community demands of the government an honest, fair and just investigation of the murder. It is pertinent to mention here that all traders bodies of Lahore also observed shutter-down strike on Friday last against the proposed amendment in the present blasphemy law.
