1,601 outlaws held during 2010

Islamabad Police have arrested 1601 outlaws for their alleged involvement in possessing illegal weapons and drug trafficking, recovering 923 kg explosives, 35 Kalashnikovs, 62 rifles, 73 guns, 599 pistols/revolvers, two carbines, 301 magazines, two hand grenades along with 42 kg heroin, 374 kg hashish and 67 kg opium from their possession during 2010.
Islamabad Police during the year launched many operations against the suspected persons and anti-social elements and arrested 784 accused for carrying illegal weapons, said Naeem Iqbal, a spokesman of Islamabad Police here on Monday. He said that 726 cases were registered against 784 outlaws in different sections including Anti Terrorist Act and Explosive Act. He said that Margallah Police, Sabzi Mandi, Bhara Kahu and Industrial Area Police recovered 29 kg explosive, 270 kg, 620 kg and four kg explosive respectively.
Moreover, 35 Kalashnikovs, 62 rifles, 73 12-bore guns, 599 pistols and revolvers, two carbine rifles, 301 magazines, two hand grenades, 22 daggers, 3 detonators and 14,985 bullets of different caliber were recovered from detained outlaws, he added. Islamabad Police registered 726 cases of drug trafficking and arrested 817 persons for their involvement in drug trafficking, he said, adding that 373.097 kg hashish, 41.432 kg heroin, 67 kg opium, 57883 bottles of liqueur were recovered from their possession.
Tahir Alam Khan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Islamabad said that the Police have adopted aggressive strategy against the drug pushers and wine sellers, arresting huge number of drug peddlers speak volume about the efficiency of the force.
However, he further directed all SDPOs and SHOs to keep such momentum and step up the on-going anti-social elements move by further intensifying police patrolling in their respective jurisdictions. Police got great success in curbing the crime during 2010, and its efforts would be continued until complete elimination of the menace, SSP said.
