Vice Chancellor, University of Sindh, Professor Dr Nazir A. Mughal has informed deans of faculties that he will start checking schedule of student meeting hours dedicated by teachers, to be posted by faculty members in front of their offices, besides allocated credit hours teaching as part of academic reforms, from January, 15.
He was addressing a meeting of deans' council, here on Monday, to finalise schedule of semester reforms, which would be implemented fully in the teaching departments during the ongoing academic session. The Vice Chancellor said he is sure of implementation of semester system in its original sprit during the academic year 2011 and expressed hope that deans, who are the academic heads, would check it and will help in further improvement.
He further said academic reforms would be implemented step by step in the varsity to raise the standard of higher education and research. He added that semester system is an honourable system, which develops confidence among the students and respect for teachers. Professor Dr Mughal emphasised upon deans to motivate faculty members to dedicate sometime for community service, which is also a part of the academic reforms.
He stressed that community service nowadays is a very important subject and added that it is the duty of teachers that apart from teaching, they work for community service by delivering their expertise. The meeting decided that summer teaching at the varsity as well as Old Campus Hyderabad, in addition to regular teaching for fresh, improver and failure candidates, will be imitated during the month of May and some key course in the first instance will be introduced. For this purpose, a feasibility report will be submitted by deans.
