Chairperson of Income support Programme (BISP) Farzana Raja distributed cheques under Waseela-e-Haq initiative among 120 families at D G Khan on Sunday.
"It was a commitment of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto towards the poor and downtrodden segments of country that she would never leave them alone and now her party is fulfilling the same commitment by serving the poor and by striving hard to make Pakistan a social welfare state", she said this while addressing a gathering at DG Khan. She said that the present democratic government was fighting with poverty and terrorism simultaneously.
She also lauded army role in eliminating terrorism. Federal Minister for Health Makhdoom Shahab-ud-Din, Senator Sardar Latif Khosa, Uzma Bukhari, MPA and Shibli Shabkhez Ghori, President of Pakitsan People's Party District D G Khan, were also present on the occasion.
The BISP Chairperson said that the government wanted to empower women and give them due status in the society according to dreams and wishes of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
She said that life insurance for the beneficiary families had already been introduced and health insurance would be offered to them soon which would provide them up to Rs 25,000 annual coverage. She said that all these steps were aimed to reduce poverty and improve the lives of the poor. She said that at present 75,000 families from DG Khan Division have been registered with the BISP.
