Despite the tall claims of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), an acute shortage of gas for domestic users has paralysed the routine life in various areas of the city. The unavailability of gas on Saturday forced the people to take to streets. They registered their anger, disrupted the traffic and chanted slogans against the government and the SNGPL.
People of Shahdra came out on the streets in large number to register their protest against the acute shortage of gas in the area. They were chanting slogans against the government. They said that they were facing the problem of low pressure for the last three months. They demanded that government should take notice of the low pressure and restore the connection of the area.
According to the survey conducted by Business Recorder the residents of the areas of Sabzar on Multan Road, Township, Thokker Niaz Baig, Icchra, Canal View, Johar Town, Township, Mozang, Green Town, Faisal Town, Wapda Town, Garden Town and Gulshane Ravi, Cant and Defence complained about the low pressure saying that they cannot even cook food due to low pressure of gas.
Ahsan a resident of Icchra said that despite the claims of the government gas supply to domestic user would be the priority. 'We are being ignored and nobody listen our complaints," Ahsan said. While hundreds of people staged protest against gas load shedding in Green Town and Chungi Amrsiddhu areas and demanded of the government to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to domestic consumers.
The protesters mostly housewives and children complained that the gas load shedding multiplied their miseries. They said that they had to wait for hours for gas supply to cook food. The angry protesters blocked the roads by setting the tyres on fire. On early Thursday, a good number of people gathered outside at Ferozepur Road and staged protest demonstration against the SNGPL authorities. A great number of shopkeepers and workers of roadside restaurants also joined the protest. In another incident, dozens of people mostly women also staged protest demonstration in Green Town area and disrupted the traffic flow. They said that the domestic consumers are suffering a lot due to the gas load shedding.
