FAISALABAD: Progress and prosperity of the country is directly linked with economic development and under training Trade and Commerce Officers from the Institute of Trade and Commerce (ITC) Islamabad will play a key role in achieving this cherish objective.

This was said by Ayesha Makhdoom, Director Administration ITC, Islamabad, while addressing the members of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) here on Thursday.

She said: "We need highly qualified and professional officers who could contribute their role in strengthening economy by enhancing national exports".

She said under training officers were getting theoretic knowledge from the institute and for their practical knowledge such study tours were being arranged regularly.

She said some of the officers would also be appointed as commercial counselor in different potential markets of other countries to play their proactive role in enhancing exports.

Earlier, FCCI President Shabbir Hussain Chawla briefly introduced the FCCI and said the real economic strength of Faisalabad was its SME sectors.

He added that some industrial units were manufacturing domestically consumable items while others were exclusively producing various products for export purposes.

Responding to a question, he said the government had to formulate a policy for the encouragement of SME Sector.

Later, Ayesha Makhdoom presented a shield of ITC to President FCCI Shabbir Hussain Chawla while Mian Tanveer Ahmed, the Executive Member, also presented her a shield of the FCCI.
