Infighting between Director General, Intelligence and Investigation (I&I)FBR and the Director of Karachi office has further intensified as Muhammad Zahid Khokar, Director I&I-FBR, Karachi on Thursday went on 40-days leave to express resentment over DG's administration.
According to sources, the working relation among them has never reached at an acceptable level but got more exacerbated on the issue of transfers and postings. They said the DG Muhammad Riaz Khan used to avoid consulting with the Director, I&I-FBR Karachi regarding transfers and postings of I&I officers, which not only raised conflicts among them but also created adverse impact on department's performance.
They said the DG I&I has so far not expressed concerns over the performance of the director but showing mistrust on the probity of his field officers especially, ASO team, which was now transferred to Karachi Regional Tax Office (RTO). They however, said the Director, I&I-FBR, Karachi was of the view that the transfers and postings of his field staff without formal consultation was unjustified.
Moreover, the sources said the Karachi I&I-FBR had earlier recommended suspension its four officers on account of their misconduct but the DG office has appeared deaf ear in this connection, which led to intensify muttering in the ranks. "This lukewarm attitude of DG office is one of the major factors of this internal strife," they maintained.
Muhammad Riaz Khan DG, I&I-FBR while talking to Business Recorder on telephone, dispelled the impression that there is any cleavage of opinion with the Director of I&I-FBR Karachi. He said this is all anti-department propaganda, which is being spread by those low-rank officers, who were recently transferred. Replying to a question, he said the DG office always obliged the recommendations of its all regional offices.
He also informed that the DG office on the recommendation of Karachi I&I-FBR has initiated inquiry against its officers on account of their misconduct and assured to take them to task, if they failed to proof their innocence. He further said that the DG office has no role in transfers and postings but to follow the instructions of board in this regard. When contacted, Muhammad Zahid Khokar, gave pleasant expression with no comments.
