Apropos a news item carried by Business Recorder on 28th December, 2010 under caption OGDCL set to propose hefty pay for MD,2 GMs", which is false, concocted and not based on facts. The fact is that the pay of MD/CEO is neither on the agenda of the forthcoming meeting of the BOD of the Company nor the amount ie Rs 1.6 million shown in the news item is correct.
It is clarified that the appointment of MD/CEO and his terms and conditions are determined / approved by the Government of Pakistan. MD/CEO is entitled only to the pay and perks approved by the Government. The pay revision of two General Managers is a routine practice and is being revised in order to bring it at par with the other General Managers in the Company employed on contract basis.
However, it is not to the tune of Rs 0.8 million. Since both the GMs profile is matching with the profile of other GMs whereas they are being paid far less than that. Their performance for the last year was excellent and the revision of their salary based on their performance is as per OGDCL rules and practices. The news item appeared in the press is refuted as it is baseless and factually in-correct.
ZAFAR BHUTTA adds: Although, OGDCL has denied any item on board agenda about hefty salary package of MD, OGDCL has admitted in its clarification that the pay of two GMs was being revised. The proposal about revision in salary package of GM communication Lieutenant Colonel Shafqat (Retd) is on the agenda. The Board of Directors had recommended to terminate his services due to illegal appointment. OGDCL rules and regulations do not allow any raise in the salary package of contract employees who are already in services. This reporter, therefore, stand-by his story.
