Muhammad Ali made Chairman SECP

The government has appointed Muhammad Ali Ghulam Muhammad as the Chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) for three-year term with immediate effect. In this regard, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has signed the summary and a notification of his appointment was issued on Friday.
The notification said that the government has appointed Muhammad Ali Ghulam Muhammad as Commissioner in SECP for a period of three years and also appointed him as the chairman of the regulatory body for next term with immediate effect. The post fell vacant after the retirement of former SECP chairman, Salman Sheikh, on November 29, 2010. Muhammad Ali Ghulam Muhammad has rich experience as he has served various organisations in Pakistan, USA, Canada and UK.
He has served as Chairman of Fortune Securities Limited, a corporate member of Karachi Stock Exchange and National Commodity Exchange Limited of Pakistan and one of the top 10 brokers on the exchange serving retail and institutional clients. In 2008, he established MAGM Holdings.
He has also served as CEO of Converge Technologies Canada (previously called Three-sixty-degreez Canada Inc) and as Chairman of Converge Technologies, Pakistan. He was also Director, Inbox Business Technologies; Pakistan. He has also served as Chairman of All Agro Real Estate (Pvt) Ltd - Pakistan, Director, Bonyad Developers FZ-LLC - U.A.E.; Director, Aqua Development FZ-LLC - U.A.E; Country Manager, Elixir Securities Pakistan and CEO, ThreeSixtyDegreez LLC - Houston, TX, USA.
During 1994-2000, he also served as CEO, Indosuez W.I Carr Securities Pakistan, where he was also responsible for the Bangladesh market for IWICS and since September, 1998 he was given the responsibility of looking after the group's activities in the Middle East and North African markets covering 9 countries in the region.
He has served Sub-Continent Equity Sales, Smith New Court Securities - London, UK, the largest market maker on LSE, and one of the leading equities brokers in the UK selling European, Asian and Latin American equities to world-wide institutional investors. He was part of a 3-member team responsible for selling Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi equities to UK and Continental European investors.
He was also Head of Equities Broking, MRJ Securities, Pakistan and Management Associate, Local Corporate Group, Citibank, N.A. - Karachi, Pakistan. He has been Director, Engro Chemical Pakistan during the period 2003 - 2006, Director, Dawood Bank in 2003-2006, Director, Karachi Stock Exchange in 1998, Director, DCR - VIS in 1998 and Director, Zafar Sultan Trust - Toronto, Canada. He did his MBA (Finance Gold Medalist) from IBA, University of Karachi in December, 1990 and BBA from the same institute in 1989.
