Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has moved the Senate against delay by Ministry of Law in clearing loan agreement worth $233 billion loan with Japan, which will deprive Pakistan of the said amount.
In various other adjournment motions and call attention notices, submitted by the JI Senators including Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim and Afia Zia to the Senate Secretariat, the members have called for debate on the pressing issues by suspending the routine business of the House, said Saifullah Gondal, the JI's media co-ordinator for parliamentary affairs while talking to Business Recorder.
In the first adjournment motion, the party members have expressed concerns over the delay in clearing legal procedure by Ministry of Law to sign the loan agreement worth $233 billion with Japan. While in the second adjournment motion, the issue of gas load shedding in Punjab has been raised that resulted in closure of various industrial units and other related problems to the industries along with low pressure of gas to domestic consumers in various parts of the country.
Through a call attention notice, the members have expressed concerns over the illegal promotions by management of Capital Development Authority (CDA) of the officials who were allegedly involved in corruption worth millions of rupees. Similarly, in another call attention notice, the JI senators have sought explanation from Planning Division regarding Rs 4.47 billion embezzlements in Punjab Water Project. The notice further stated that though the project comes under Punjab Public Health Engineering, but the fund was provided by the Federal government, therefore, there must some explanation.
Discussion was also sought on another call attention notice in which Allama Iqbal Open University declared as failed about 529 students who passed the MA TOEFL examinations. While, through another call attention note, the members have sought explanation for the suspension of work on Lawari Tunnel in November 2010 and called for debate in the House. All the motions and call notices have been submitted to the Senate Secretariat on the basis of media reports.
