Dense fog in the provincial capital led to the closure of Allama Iqbal International Airport for about five hours on Thursday morning. According to a Civil Aviation Authority's spokesperson, the airport was closed between 4.30 am and 10.15 am for both outbound and inbound flights due to heavy fog.
Around 10 flights were affected by the misty weather, which resumed once the weather cleared. Some sectors of the motorways (M1, M2 and M3) and National Highway (N-5) also came under the grip of shallow/moderate fog, making driving conditions very difficult in the morning.
According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, Lahore, the foggy conditions are likely to continue in Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Sukkur and Peshawer divisions during current week. Thus, drivers have been advised to remain very careful during such weather conditions. The foggy conditions are likely to prevail over the plain area of Punjab, upper Sindh and some areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkwha (Swabi, Charsadda, Noshera) during midnight to morning.
The met office also forecasted cold and dry weather over most parts of the country. Meanwhile, foggy conditions in the provincial capital added nip in the air, as mercury dipped to 2.5 Celsius degrees on Thursday, while the maximum temperature was 18.5 Celsius degrees.
