Federal Women Development Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that government was striving to ensure socio-economic justice and protection of people's rights in the country. Talking to media here on Wednesday she said PPP-led government will continue its struggle for the protection of people's rights to fulfil the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto.
PPP is representative of poor segment of the society especially industrial workers and small farmers and government is bound to address their problems on top priority basis, she said. The minister further said that government had formulated a strategy for the promotion agriculture sector under which the problems being confronted by the small farmers would be resolved on priority basis.
Dr Firdous further said that under the programme drastic steps were being taken for the bringing revolutionary changes in agriculture sector aimed enhancing the per acre yield and to making self-sufficient the country in food autarky. Special steps were also being taken for developing the politically ignored and neglected backward areas with the concept of bringing these ignored areas on equal footings with the developed parts of the country, she said. Under the programme efforts would be made to remove disparities of rural and urban areas.
The minister said the government was working on the lines and political vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for bringing radical changes in every sphere of the life and to ensure social justice to the masses. On this occasion, she paid rich tributes to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for rendering laudable services for restoration of democracy in the country. Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was a symbol of democracy and PPP will carry on its struggle for converting the country into a real democratic state, Dr Firdous added.
