Chinese coal producer aims to raise output

Published Updated

Guizhou province, the leading coal producer in southern China, aims to raise coal output by more than two thirds to 250 million tonnes by 2015, the official Xinhua news agency reported on Monday. Guizhou also planned to increase installed power generating capacity to more than 45 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2015, and production from 14 GW would be shipped from outside the province, Xinhua reported.
The local government plans to have 60 GW of power capacity by 2020. Guizhou would invest more than 100 billion yuan ($15.03 billion) in grid networks in the five year through 2015, the report added. The province was expected to produce about 140 million tonnes of coal in 2010, according to a Xinhua report on November 30. Guizhou had 30.19 GW of power generating capacity at the end of 2009.
