LAHORE: A petition was moved on Wednesday in the Lahore High Court seeking inquiry into alleged misappropriation of funds provided by World Bank to the Punjab Government for medical treatment of jail inmates across the province.
The petition was filed by HELMS Foundation, a NGO, impleading Secretary Health Punjab, Inspector General Prisons and others.
The petitioner submitted that World Bank gave Rs 500 million in aid to the Punjab Government under "TB Reach Programme" for treatment of prisoners, in 2001.
However, the desired results were not achieved as the officers involved misappropriated the aid.
The petitioner prayed to the court to pass order for setting up a commission to conduct the inquiry into the matter.
He also prayed that the related record be seized so that culprits could not alter it.
