HYDERABAD: Sindh Minister for Science and Technology Jam Madad Ali has emphasized the need of strict implementation on two percent quota of employment for disabled persons in order to bring out the disabled persons from sense of deprivation and improve their socio economic condition.
Besides provision of employment to disabled persons, according to their quota, there is the need to provide technical education including computer literacy to disabled persons of the province, the minister emphasized this while addressing a ceremony after leading a rally here at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium in connection with the World Disabled Day.
The rally was taken out Hosh Muhammad Sheedi Flyover to Sindh Museum under the banner of the Department of Special Education Sindh.
The minister said that disabled persons are getting special attention in other countries of the world, but regretfully in Pakistan, they have no such importance as they need.
He informed that the Department of Special Education Sindh is playing vital role for the welfare of disabled persons of the province so that they could play their due role in the society.
The minister informed that the government institutions have initiated numbers of steps for provision of special education to disabled persons, however, he said that technical education as well as computer literacy should also be provided to disabled persons so that they could be able to meet the challenges of the modern world.
The minister assured that he will request to Sindh Chief Minister for construction of hostel for special persons in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, in connection with the World Disabled Day, the office bearers and members of Special Social Welfare Organization took out a rally led by its President Muhammad Rafique Rajput.
The participants of the rally also observed a token hunger strike to register protest over non implementation on two percent quota of disabled persons in government departments.
The President and General Secretary Abdul Shakoor while addressing the participants of the rally expressed their regrets over discrimination with disabled persons and demanded the government to strictly implement the decision of provision of employment to disabled persons according to their fixed quota.
They also demanded separate seats for disabled persons in public transport including trains and buses and enquiry against the provision of government employment to medically fit persons against disabled quota.
