ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Affairs and Statistics was informed on Friday that Pakistan has received funds and grants worth $ 265.01 million out of total $ 481.44 million committed for the projects of Health Sector since the last decade.
The committee met here under the chairmanship of Malik Azmat Khan MNA and was also attended MNAs Muhammad Arshad Khan Leghari, Chaudhry Liaqat Abbas Bhatti, Arif Aziz Shaikh, Muzaffarul Mulk ,Rana Nazir Ahmad alongwith senior officials of Economic Affairs Division (EAD).
Briefing the Standing Committee, Secretary EAD, Abdul Wajid Rana said that the government had received approximately 55 per cent grants out of committed amount meant for projects of health sectors in the country.
He informed the committee that among other donors, International Development Association (IDA) remained major donor by donating $ 127.82 million while Germany was the second donor with $ 48.53 million.
Gavi Alliance, Japan and United Kingdom supported in the heath projects of country by donating $34.2 million, $21.13 million and $33.33 million respectively.
He also informed that except this amount, China also donated RMB 7.00 (Renminbi) million as grants for treatment of 1000 cataract patients.
Out of 1000 cataract patients, 250 patients of Nishtar Hospital Multan, 250 of Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Islamabad, 100 of Helper's Hospital Quetta, 100 of District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Muzaffarabad, 100 of DHQ Skardu and 200 of Liquat University of Medical and Health Science (LUMHS) Jamshoro will get treatment.
He said that in the first phase of 500 surgeries was scheduled to start from December 5, at PIMS Islamabad and Nishtar Hospital Multan.
The secretary briefed the committee that the selection criteria for Student Exchange Programme (SEP) with China and Turkey included population size, development index, regional and gender and diversity of professions within the regional quota and required age group between 15-29 years.
The proposed quota for selection of SEP was based on province wise as Punjab 51 per cent, Sindh 21 per cent, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) 12 per cent, Balochistan 5 per cent, Islamabad Capital 1 per cent, Gilgit Baltistan 1 per cent, Azad Jammu Kashmir 2 per cent, FATA 2 per cent and EAD team 5 per cent.
The secretary informed that the total budget allocated for EAD was Rs. 421.48 million and the expenditure during 1st quarter (July-Sep, 2011) was Rs. 46.33 million out of proportionate budget Rs. 105.37 of 1st quarter (Jul-Sep, 2011).
The country has received total amount $555 million as loans and grants during July-October as compared to $458 million in the same period last year.
The committee directed the ministry to include KPK Hospital for operation of patients and to provide the province wise quota list of the SEP beneficiaries.
The committee also directed for provision of the last ten years funds utilization details of the ministries water and power, interior and petroleum and natural resources.
