Kyrgyzstan's Prime Minister Igor Chudinov resigned on Tuesday, triggering the resignation of the whole cabinet, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev's office said. "Today Kurmanbek Bakiyev signed a decree 'On the resignation of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic'," it said in a statement.
In a separate statement, it said Bakiyev's Ak Zhol party would nominate a new candidate for prime minister later on Tuesday. Ak Zhol dominates the parliament of the former Soviet republic, which will then need to approve the nomination.
Bakiyev on Tuesday announced an overhaul of the state administration system, reducing the number of ministries and putting some agencies, such as the National Security Committee, under his direct control. Chudinov has run the government of the Central Asian state, which hosts a US air base, since late 2007. He remains acting prime minister until his successor is named.
