Published July 27, 2007 Updated July 27, 2007 12:00am

The President of the Karachi Gymkhana Muhammed Taqi Iqbal on Thursday presented Editor-in-Chief of Business Recorder, M.A. Zuberi, a special plaque and memento to honour him for the services that he had rendered in the field of journalism and for Pakistan during the past 59 years of country's existence.
Joining him at the presentation ceremony were senior members of the Karachi Gymkhana Asadullah Khan, Zafar Maniar, Moin Maniar and senior Editor Mahmudul Aziz. The Editor of Business Recorder, Wamiq Zuberi, was present at the ceremony held in the office of M.A. Zuberi.
The President of the Karachi Gymkhana, Taqi Iqbal, said M.A. Zuberi had shown the path to the younger generation of how to serve the nation selflessly. He said that M.A. Zuberi had been a pioneer in journalism and was the founder of the largest financial daily in the Muslim world, which was in itself a great achievement. He said the Karachi Gymkhana had decided to confer the award on him in recognition of his yeoman's services.
M.A. Zuberi, thanking the Karachi Gymkhana President Taqi Iqbal for the Award and plaque, said he had followed the advice of the Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah and had devoted himself to the profession of journalism, as also serving the nation through his writings. He recalled the setting up of Business Recorder in 1965, shortly after refusing the offer of becoming Ambassador. He said he felt very satisfied with his contributions in the field of journalism in Pakistan and as an Editor, had always adhered to the cardinal principles of journalism. He thanked the Karachi Gymkhana for the honour bestowed on him.
Mahmudul Aziz, speaking at the presentation ceremony, said that M.A. Zuberi's contributions in the field of journalism were highly important, specially at a time when the country needed to build itself in keeping with the ideals of the founding fathers led by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The contents of the plaque presented on the occasion were read out by Editor Business Recorder Wamiq Zuberi. The citation in the plaque said that it was being presented by the Karachi Gymkhana friends to M.A. Zuberi, Doyen of Editors Community, to acknowledge his great contribution to journalism and Pakistan. Moin Maniar, Zafar Maniar and Asadullah Khan congratulated M.A.Zuberi after the presentation of the plaque while Mahmudul Aziz and Wamiq Zuberi appreciated the gesture by the Karachi Gymkhana.
