President General Pervez Musharraf here on Saturday warned the Lal Masjid elements to surrender or otherwise face the consequences. Talking to media representatives at the residence of Federal Minister Yar Mohammad Rind in Sani Shoran, Bolan district, he said the government has demonstrated extraordinary patience regarding Lal Masjid issue, but it should not be taken as its weakness.
The government is fully capable and has enough resources to clear the mosque premises of the elements holed up inside, but it was not using full force in view of the presence of women and children there. He said the elements present in Lal Masjid were bringing bad name to Islam, Muslims and the country. The President said around 1,400 inmates had surrendered, and urged the remaining to hand themselves over to the authorities.
Referring to relief operation in rain-hit areas, the President said the government would mobilise its available resources to fully rehabilitate the affected population. The current torrential rains followed by flood have inflicted severe damages upon the people as well as upon civic infrastructure in these areas, but the government is committed to compensating their losses.
On the occasion, he also announced Rs 30 million as development package for the Bolan district. He also said the study of Bolan, Mula and Suklug dams is being carried out and construction of these dams would be launched soon after completion of feasibility studies. The construction of these three dams will on the one hand improve agriculture in the area while on the other, check future floods, he said.
Balochistan Governor Awais Ahmed Ghani, Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yusuf, Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Khalid Shameem Wyeen and other officials were also present on the occasion.
