An anti terrorist court (ATC) on Friday handed over Khalid Khwaja on seven-day physical remand to police for further investigation. Khwaja, a former intelligence official and chairman of the Defence for Human Rights, was brought to the anti terrorist court and presented before ATC No 2 Judge Sakhi Muhammad Kahut.
SHO Aabpara Police Station, Inspector Abdul Rasheed Niazi submitted before the court that an FIR under sections 6 and 7 of the Anti Terrorist Act and other sections 302, 109 and 324 of the Penal Code was filed against the accused for firing and killing over a dozen people on July 3.
Prosecution pleaded that the FIR against Khalid Khwaja was filed on eyewitness account as constable Aslam of Aabpara police station had seen him firing from Lal Masjid and demanded a ten-day physical remand to investigate the matter.
The court after hearing the charges remanded him to police for seven days. Khwaja, who was released a few days back by the government from Adiala Jail on Supreme Court orders, was arrested yesterday by Aabpara police from his residence.
Khwaja had been at the forefront in the struggle for the release of hundreds of missing people under the banner of his organisation Defence for Human Rights.
