Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam on Wednesday said that Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has been formally approached to adopt unanimous resolution and effective action against the British government's decision to give title of sir to Salman Rushdie.
"Latest position is that OIC has been formally approached to adopt unanimous resolution and action," the FO Spokesperson told a private television. She said Pakistan deplores the award of knighthood to a controversial figure and regrets that British government showed insensitivity to the issue, which has hurt the feelings of Muslim Ummah.
The spokesperson said Foreign Office had summoned the British High Commissioner to lodge protest against the knighthood to Rushdie. To a question, she urged the Muslim countries to adopt a unanimous resolution in this regard.
