In an emergent meeting called at Site Association office it was resolved that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) would augment the 8mgd water supply to Site area within one week time.
According to a press release issued on Monday the meeting was called on the intervention of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal the other day to discuss the short supply of water from the available sources at KW&SB.
Imran Shaukat presided over the meeting wherein the representatives of KW&SB, SITE Limited and SITE Association of Industries were present. The meeting observed that the industrial area was receiving little share of water, averaging from 2.5mgd to 4.7mgd for the last 15 days against the allocated quota of 8mgd, which was even admitted by the KW&SB engineers.
Anwer Saeed said that the KW&SB team on the directives of city Nazim was engaged day and night to augment the water supply from 24" dia connection at Banaras Chowk and would be in position to augment it from 3mgd to 5mgd within one week time.
Thereafter the KW&SB authorities would stand committed to supply 8mgd (5 plus 3mgd from other five connections) water to SITE area. On the question of breakage of water supply to SITE area it was reported that KW&SB had not sufficient generators to continue supply without breaks due to the electricity problems.
Imran Shaukat further said that it was necessary to mention here that Sindh governor during his visit to SITE Association of Industry on May 31, 2006 had issued directives to KW&SB to ensure the supply of allocated quota of water (ie 8 mgd) to SITE Ltd. The Sindh governor had also announced to enhance the quota of water from 8mgd to 12mgd on the commissioning of K-III Project, but neither the quota of water had been increased nor the allocated quota of water was being supplied to SITE Ltd.
Imran Shaukat took a serious note of negligence on the part of KW&SB engineers and staff engaged in supply of water to SITE area and said that he was not ready to listen any lame excuses of technical nature in this highly sophisticated technical advanced time. He advised KW&SB engineers to get repaired 25 leakages (6 leakages on 48" dia connection along Manghopir Road - 11 leakages on 24" dia connection along Estate Avenue - 5 leakages on 12" dia connection and 8" dia connection in Niazi Colony and installation of meter at Regent Cinema (Nazimabad) and arrange generators on war footing to ensure 8mgd water supply to the SITE area without fail.-PR
