PSL fixing row: Irfan, Shahzaib issued notices

Published March 11, 2017 Updated March 11, 2017 08:44am

imageThe Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) anti corruption unite has summoned fast bowler Muhammad Irfan and opening batsman Shazaib Hasan in relation to the spot-fixing during the Pakistan Super Leagues second edition concluded recently.

As per media reports, PCB has reinitiated the investigation after the leads from Dubai. Previously, Irfan and Shahzaib came forward to report approaches made on them at the PSL, along with Zulfiqar Babar.

However, unlike Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan they were not suspended and were allowed to continue playing for their respective team.

"It has started with both [Shahzaib and Irfan] being issued a demand note and by that both are bound to share all the information with PCB anti-corruption unit, informed a PCB spokesperson to reporters.

Muhammad Irfan will appear before the anti-corruption unit on Monday while Shahzaib Hasan will present his case on Tuesday.

PCB anti-corruption unit will assess their evidence and information and will determine whether to charge them or not."

It was further informed that if Irfan and Shahzaib deny charges, a three-member tribunal headed by a retired judge Haider Asghar Rizvi, and including ex-PCB chairman Tauqir Zia and former wicket-keeper Wasim Bari would investigate the case.

Earlier, Khalid Latif and Sharjeel Khan were provisionally suspended by the PCB anti corruption unit for their alleged links with an international syndicate that attempted to corrupt PSL, they have already been charged by the PCB.
