LAHORE: Students and teachers of Pak-Turk School staged on Thursday a protest against the governments decision of deporting Turkish staff from Pakistan.
The decision is significant because it came at a time when Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is in the country on a two-day visit. In addition it has been a consistent demand of the Turkish government to shut down these schools which, it claimed, are backed by Fethullah Gulen-inspired Hizmet movement.
According to local media reports, the protest was staged inside the schools boys campus at Raiwand Road. Turkish staff at the school has been ordered by the interior ministry to leave Pakistan within one week.
A few days back, Turkey ambassador called on the Pakistan government to close down all the institutions backed by the Fethullah Gulen-inspired Hizmet movement. Turkish staff members of the Pak-Turk school moved the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against orders of the Interior Ministry to leave the country by November 20.
A chain of 28 schools and colleges is functioning under the Pak-Turk Education Foundation in different cities of Pakistan, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, Karachi, Hyderabad, Khairpur, Jamshoro and Quetta.
