imageRAWALPINDI: LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah Monday said the Lahore High Court (LHC) had rendered great services for supremacy of law as provision of speedy justice was the top priority of judiciary.

Addressing a ceremony here at LHC Rawalpindi Bench in connection with 150th celebrations of LHC, he said the celebrations were being held with a spirit to make general public aware about the efforts being made for disposal of cases. The Chief Justice said institutions held importance, not the individual, and the celebrations were being held of the institution, not of an individual.

He said reforms were being made in the judicial system and the masses would soon witness results of these changes, adding as the judicial system progresses it would become strengthen.

The Chief Justice said,"If courts in Singapore decide the murder case in two weeks why cannot our judiciary does it in six weeks."

He said it was court's duty to decide the cases without any pressure or fear and the judges were striving for it.

He emphasized the need for better coordination among the different tiers of judiciary to provide speedy Justice to the masses.

The Chief Justice said shortage of judges was being overcome and the IT system had been introduced. The judicial academy in Lahore had been given a new look and it was working like the university.

He said hectic efforts were being made to reduce shelf life of cases to provide relief to the public by early dispensation of the cases.

He also paid tribute to the retired judges of the LHC and called them an asset for the superior judiciary.

Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf while speaking on the occasion said besides e-courts and e-library, the concept of e-filing should also be introduced in the courts to streamline the court record and improve their performance.
