flood_wfpISLAMABAD: World Food Programme (WFP) is still facing a funding shortfall of US $ 109 million to conduct food distributions for the most vulnerable victims of floods in Sindh and Balochistan.

WFP needs immediate funding to continue its relief operation for planned next four months and to ensure targeted nutritional support to malnourished women and children until February in both the provinces; this was mentioned in WFP's latest updates.

It said the total number of beneficiaries has reached over 1.1 million with 15,650 MT food distributions in October. Overall 1.65 million people have received one month ration since September 12 when the operation was launched.

On Tuesday the WFP's Centres provided assistance to 106,968 beneficiaries with 1,589 ton food.

The Agency has now started food distribution in Tando Muhammad Khan and Matiari districts in Sindh.

With these the total numbers of districts in Sindh are 11 and only Dadu district is left where food distribution is to be started.

Giving information, Communication Officer of WFP told APP here on Wednesday that the logistics cluster was providing road transport for inter-agency humanitarian cargo in response to specific requests for support from NGOs.

In addition, temporary inter-agency storage in ten facilities located across Sindh is provided to the humanitarian community. The Logistics cluster extends yet further its support with the provision of regularly updated maps depicting access constraints and logistics infrastructure.

The Communication Officer said to date, the Logistics Cluster has sufficient funds to meet the current operational demands but in case of further requests from partners, more funding would be required to provide essential transport, storage and coordination services for the humanitarian community.
