Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday directed the economic managers to chalk out policies for transferring the benefits of "stable macro-economic indicators" to grass-roots level. Presiding over a meeting here to discuss proposals for the coming budget, he directed the economic policy makers that utmost emphasis should be on poverty reduction to change the lot of the downtrodden people. "Poverty reduction should be the main target of our government, and it is possible only by adopting policies to transform the stability of macro-economic indicators at micro level," sources quoted the Prime Minister as telling the officials.
The meeting also considered various other proposals pertaining to social sector development, capacity building, privatisation of various government's entities and other fiscal and monetary matters.
The meeting discussed a number of proposals to consolidate the gains of the current macro-economic stability and to provide a solid base to the country for building up this foundation.
Adviser to Prime Minister for Finance Dr Salman Shah, Governor State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Dr Ishrat Hussain, State Minister for Finance Omar Ayub Khan, Chairman Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Abdullah Yousaf and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr Akram Sheikh attended the meeting.
