Pakistan and Hellenic Republic (Greece) on Monday signed a Cultural Exchange Agreement for the years 2005-2007 to further promote friendly relations and close co-operation in the fields of education, science, culture, youth and sports. The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Jalil Abbas on behalf of Pakistan and Secretary General Ministry of Culture Affairs Christos Lachopoulos on behalf of Greece signed the agreement here.
Both countries agreed to extend co-operation in the fields of education and science by encouraging co-operation between the universities and to cooperate in the fields of archives and libraries.
Pakistan and Greece would also promote co-operation between their competent archaeological services and restoration of cultural and historical heritage.
Shedding lights on the history, cultural agreement between Pakistan and Hellenic (Greece) was signed on December 16 1976. In pursuance of that agreement, cultural exchanges between the two are being drawn regularly. The last agreement was signed on December 1995.
The Greek delegation also called on Federal Minister for Sports and Culture Muhammad Ajmal Khan and discussed matters of mutual interests.
The minister said Pakistan and Greece have close cultural and historical relations and signing of the agreement would further strengthen those ties.
