imageIn Oman, people often help to the needy people, relative and neighbors who cannot afford to buy food in the Holy month Ramadan as act of charity and goodwill that are especially blessed during this special Holy month.

According to the Times of Oman, truckloads of good foods are sent from Muscat by generous donors to less privileged communities in the interior. At sunset, most community mosques open their doors for people, especially fasting workers on humble salaries, to enjoy nutritious meals. Everywhere you go; there is a tangible open-heartedness. The mosque food is donated by generous members of the local community.

The night Ramadan is to be announced, people wear different traditional dresses and wait for the moon to be spotted marking the beginning of the ‘month of Goodness’.

Furthermore according to the Times of Oman, the preparations begin early with people stocking up on special foods from hypermarkets and traditional souqs, both of which are decorated with lanterns and flags and packed with bulk items on discount in Oman.

Interestingly, in Oman special attention paid to the unique tradition ‘Qarankasho,’ a celebration for children, marking the completion of two weeks of fasting. The tradition is that after sunset prayers on the fourteen night of Ramadan, children dress in their best clothes and carry special treat bags woven by their mothers. They go from house to house in their communities, singing a song of Qarankasho and are awarded with sweets, nuts and fruits.

This is a unique tradition that is not found in any Muslim country. In Oman it is practiced only in Muscat, the Batinah and some parts of Dakhiliyah. It is unique to certain Gulf Countries.
