Pakistan on Sunday condemned the killing of Hamas chief Abdel Aziz Rantissi, and called upon the international community to intervene to stop the 'cycle of violence' and bring the peace process back to track.
Hamas chief Rantissi, his son and a bodyguard were killed late Friday night in a missile attack by Israel. The slain Hamas leader was said to be the top Israeli target, after it had killed Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Yassin last month.
"Pakistan condemns the killing. Such arbitrary and extra-judicial killings contravene international law, and are a bane of the efforts aimed at fostering peace and security in the Middle East with the ultimate objective of creating a viable, independent and sovereign Palestinian state, said Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan in a statement here.
He urged the international community to "intercede to staunch the cycle of violence destabilising the region and bring the peace process back on track."
