ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing of the case regarding seniority and promotion of police officers according to prescribed quota.
The three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Amir Hani Muslim and comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, Secretary Establishment Tahir Shahbaz appeared before the bench and submitted report regarding police seniority. He said that 40 percent quota was specified for the promotions of provincial police officers.
He said that quota system is always taken care in the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) and no one can intervene in the process. The condition worsens when seats are vacant and no one found appropriate candidate for promotion, he added.
Justice Hani asked the Secretary Establishment that court can dispose of the case if he assures to issue administrative order. On this Tahir Shahbaz stated that it would be better if court issue orders in this regard.
The court directed to distribute copies of the report to the concerned respondents and adjourned hearing of the case.
